The ECOTIC ENVASES Association has received provisional nationwide authorization as a Collective System of Extended Producer Responsibility (SCRAP) for the management of household, commercial, and industrial packaging waste. This authorization, granted by the Catalan Waste Agency (ARC), will allow ECOTIC ENVASES to begin operations on January 1, 2025, providing services for all types of packaging materials.
The ECOTIC ENVASES Association began the authorization request process in 2023. Due to delays in obtaining a response, ECOTIC proposed to both the Ministry and the Catalan Waste Agency (ARC) the possibility of granting provisional authorizations under Article 39 of Law 7/2022, of April 8, on Waste and Contaminated Soils for a Circular Economy. This proposal enabled the issuance of provisional authorization to collectively manage the obligations derived from the Law on Waste and Contaminated Soils for a Circular Economy (LRSEC) and the Royal Decree on Packaging and Packaging Waste (RDERE), helping producers and holders of packaging and packaging waste to fulfill their environmental responsibilities.
The establishment of ECOTIC ENVASES represents another step in the organization’s commitment to circular economy and sustainability. The new entity joins the efforts of Fundación ECOTIC and Fundación ECOTIC CLIMA in environmental preservation, expanding its scope to provide comprehensive solutions to companies in the packaging sector, backed by 20 years of experience in the management of waste electrical and electronic equipment.
“The launch of the ECOTIC ENVASES Association as a SCRAP will mark a significant step in our commitment to the circular economy. We are confident that this new entity will play a key role in efficiently and responsibly managing packaging waste across Spain”, stated Andreu Vilà, Managing Director of ECOTIC.
Vilà also added: “With this new SCRAP, we will enhance packaging waste management, promote sustainable practices across a broader range of sectors, and create a network of comprehensive actions that drive progress toward a circular economy.”
This new SCRAP aims not only to comply with current regulations but also to optimize the collection, treatment, and recycling of packaging waste, tailoring its approach to the specific needs of each company and sector. ECOTIC ENVASES will provide its members with high-quality, transparent services, including tools to facilitate waste traceability and monitor recycling targets, thereby contributing to reducing environmental impact and promoting the efficient use of resources.
We encourage you to formalize your membership with ECOTIC ENVASES before the end of the year to ensure efficient service and compliance with the environmental obligations that will come into effect in 2025.
