ECOTIC Envases, a new SCRAP for the responsible management of this waste, is born

ECOTIC's new SCRAP will act on commercial, industrial and household packaging.

On Thursday, May 9, the ECOTIC Packaging Association, a new SCRAP to address the responsible management of packaging and packaging waste, was presented. In a conference held at CASA SEAT, representatives of the administration, companies of the sector and waste managers, among others, met to discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by the new legislative scenario regarding packaging.

With this new initiative, ECOTIC will offer a platform for the collection and management of packaging waste adapted to the specific needs of our member companies, in addition to providing advice on the responsibility established by the Law 1055/2022 on packaging and waste management. . “Transforming packaging waste into new resources and giving it greater value is our priority. Our challenge is to provide a collaborative and efficient framework for packaging producers to fulfill their legal responsibilities,” said our Managing Director, Andreu Vilà.

Corderas insisted that “we are very proud of ECOTIC’s track record over the past 19 years and also hopeful about the impact of this new ECOTIC Packaging Association”. For his part, Peraire stated that “from the Agency we support the creation of this new tool that implies a renewed commitment on the part of producers in waste management”.

The event, entitled “Packaging and sustainability: from vision to action”, was attended by numerous personalities from the sector in two round tables moderated by Juan Ramón Meléndez, General Manager of the Beverage Can AssociationThe challenges and opportunities of the new legislative scenario were discussed from the point of view of companies and the administration.

The first panel was made up of Jordi Picas, Head of the Infrastructure Management Department of the Agència de Residus de Catalunya. Representing the companies, Jordi Julian, Director of Strategy and Business Development at ECOTIC, highlighted the opportunity to enter into the management of packaging waste: “Many producers demanded it from us and other systems at European level had already implemented it”.

Also participating was Eva Rodríguez, Technician of the Industry, Energy, Environment and Climate department of CEOE Froilán Romaní, Innovation Operations Lead South Europe Packaging at DS Smith, and DS Smith and Marta Angerri, Director of European Financing and Public Affairs, Sustainability and CSR in Grup Ametller Origen .

Finally, Andreu Vilà gave a lecture to explain in detail the ECOTIC Envases project. This ambitious project is a concrete and responsible response to today’s environmental challenges, demonstrating the firm commitment of the industry and the administration to building a more sustainable future.
